We are passionate about children having a safe and happy family to live with.
For many families in Maputo, life is extremely tough. By offering practical support, we help struggling families to provide better care in their homes. However, some children simply need a new family to take care of them.
Family-based Care for Maputo Children
No two stories are the same, but all children who are placed with one of our foster families have faced significant neglect and abandonment. The care provided in these family-based settings is by Mozambican mums and dads who have been trained and prepared for the role of fostering. Tutela makes sure that each foster family has everything they need to give a safe and happy experience, which goes a long way to helping the children recover from past trauma and neglect. A well-trained Social Worker is also on hand to support the children’s development and well-being. As of early 2022, Tutela oversees two foster families who live on the outskirts of Maputo, caring for a total of eleven children.
Practical Support to Maputo Families
In an ideal world, children wouldn’t find themselves neglected and abandoned by their biological parents. Which is why we work to help struggling families to stay together and support them to live a more stable life. Many families in Maputo face tough circumstances and often it is the children who suffer the most. We provide parenting courses to help families improve the care they give their children and we get alongside some of the most vulnerable families to help them meet their most pressing needs.
